Marcelino: "I'm very disappointed with how we played today"
Marcelino García Toral spoke directly in his post-match press conference at Vallecas, following Valencia CF's defeat against Rayo Vallecano. The VCF coach gave an honest assessment of how he saw the game.
The result
"I'm very disappointed with how we played today. It went the way it did because we were not solid in either area. We missed three chances before Rayo's goal -one of which was a penalty- and they scored with their first opportunity. The team who got things right the most in the two areas won the game. We didn't play at the level we deserved to be."
Effects on the fight for fourth
"Not having won here today penalises us, just like not having done as much as possible. Not having scored hinders us, and so does having made mistakes in the defence that we haven't been making up until now. Today we conceded two goals from set pieces, and we didn't get things right in front of goal. I don't know what we lacked. I don't like watching my team play like they did today. I only saw two players performing at a high level."
